New Things Are Coming!

Monday, November 12, 2018

Hey everyone! I know it's been a while since you've heard from me but I wanted to share some updates with you.  I've honestly been so busy just living life and working a full time job. I questioned if I really even wanted to keep blogging since I never seem to have time for it. As soon as that thought came into my head it went right back out. Truth is, I love blogging. I enjoy having a place to vent, share amazing recipes and just talk about life.

I decided that I needed to sit down and really think about the direction I wanted this platform to go. My ultimate dream was to become a successful blogger. Instead of throwing my dream away I decided to really fight for what I wanted to achieve. So over the next several weeks I am going to be working with someone to give my blog, and one day brand, a face lift! You can expect to see a completely new blog by January 2019. With that being said I wanted to let you guys know that all of my current posts will be wiped. With the brand new look will come brand new content. This is the part that I am MOST excited about.

I feel like I've always tried to stay pretty true to myself when sharing blogs or coming up with new content. However, being very open with my life scared me more than you would imagine. I still don't enjoy sharing my face or voice on Snapchat or Instagram Stories. I want to be more open and raw with you guys. I want to be more honest with my beliefs and how I feel about certain things. I plan to start the new blog off with a REAL introduction to Chelsea Alyson. I hope that everyone decided to follow along and keep up with my crazy life. I will be sharing way more content in 2019 than I ever have. I love you guys and your constant support through MANY blog changes. You can keep up with my process over on Instagram!

Lucky 13

Friday the 13th has been a feared day for many years by many people. Some people are so afraid of the day that they will avoid going outside, driving or even leaving for a trip on the day. I've read so many articles and seen so many personal stories about bad things happening on Friday the 13th but honestly, some of us actually really LOVE the day!

I really wanted to share a little history about why some people are so afraid and some people nearly worship the day. This post could be labeled controversial and that's okay... I really just want people to have an open mind. I've tried really hard this last year to focus on self care and part of that means your spiritual side as well. I wouldn't label myself as one thing or another. I honestly just strive to live a happy, healthy life. Everyone has their own version of what that last sentence means and one day I plan to share more of my journey but for now we're going to dive into this spooky day!

Friday The 13th.....

Most people associate this day with nothing but bad things. Since this is the case, I wanted to share a little back story on why people feel this way. There's no surprise that this fear originated during Bible times. According to biblical tradition, 13 guests attended the Last Supper, held on Maundy Thursday, including Jesus and his 12 apostles (one of whom, Judas, betrayed him). The next day, of course, was Good Friday, the day of Jesus’ crucifixion. The seating arrangement at the Last Supper is believed to have given rise to a longstanding Christian superstition that having 13 guests at a table was a bad omen—specifically, that it was courting death.

On Friday, October 13, 1307, officers of King Philip IV of France arrested hundreds of the Knights Templar, a powerful religious and military order formed in the 12th century for the defense of the Holy Land.

In more recent times...

A number of traumatic events have occurred on Friday the 13th, including the German bombing of Buckingham Palace (September 1940) & the death of rapper Tupac Shakur (September 1996).

So as you can see, there are MANY reasons why people will associate this day with bad luck. I can kind of see both sides but let me shed a little light on why this day is sacred to some.

In the Pagan world, Friday the 13th is considered a GOOD day for most. For ancient Pagans, Friday the 13th was a day where you would or could receive blessings & gifts from the Gods. There are many reasons why Friday the 13th is a sacred day for Pagans. Since this topic is very controversial and I'm not there just yet.. I just wanted to share that the biggest blessing on this day for any practicing Witch is spell casting. Whether it be for love, weight, fertility.. you name it.. The universe tends to take your spell with acceptance and ease.

Shopping + Eating Local

Wednesday, July 11, 2018

Every Friday Nick and I are normally off together so we try to get out and explore our small town just a little bit. We love trying little hole in the wall places and finding hidden treasures. I wanted to share a few places that has my heart here in Cookeville, TN. We may not have much but supporting your local businesses will only allow more growth to come into our lil town.

Most recently...

Nick visited Broast to try out some fresh ground coffee in our French Press that has yet to be used. I wasn't sure what to expect as far as flavor and consistency but I have to say... I wish I had time every morning for French Press coffee. If you haven't heard of Broast, it is a local coffee roasting company who roasts all their coffees right here in town. Their coffees are fair trade certified & organic. We have chosen 2 different kinds and so far we're pretty obsessed.

Back Room Bistro

This is the best place to get a quick, healthy brunch in Cookeville. I was super happy with my service as well as my food. We all got the omelettes with only slight variations. Nick did the self serve tea and had so may options to chose from to infuse it. I will definitely go back here sometime. Maybe a girls day??

Father Tom's Pub

We've been to Father Tom's SEVERAL times at all times of the year. We absolutely love going here! The vibe is so chill and laid back it's a really great place to wind down after a long day or to escape the summer heat for a quick drink. I would highly recommend trying to this wonderful little restaurant at least once. My favorite thing to order is The Moose burger w/sweet potato fries.. DO IT!

Southern Rock Bouncin BBQ

Who doesn't love some good bbq while being from The South?! This yummy place is right up the road from us and is super affordable for the portions that you're served. I was very pleased with my pulled chicken. Meanwhile, nick ordered the Loaded Tater.. pretty sure it was the size of a small child. I would highly recommend giving this place a shot.

Below I've linked all the place mentioned above. I love sharing local places and supporting all of our local friends. If you're in the Cookeville area I'd love to know a few places that you'd recommend trying. I am a huge fan of places that aren't super well known. Thanks for sharing!

Our Family Has Grown

Nick and I have been searching high and low for several months to add a new little addition to our family. We knew that we wanted another Pug but really wanted a black male pug. I was starting to get really frustrated because the only ones I kept finding were either scams or way overpriced.

After feeling pretty defeated I got on our Local Sales page ONE last time in an attempt to find our newest baby. I just so happened to come across 1 black male pug available only a short ride up the road from us. I immediately sent a message to make sure he was still available. After a quick visit with him, we fell in love. Two weeks later we came back to pick up our newest little love.

Meet, Mortimer Dracula Trusty.

He might only be 3.3lbs but he has the spunk of a 20lb dog. He tried to pick fights with his big brother and LOVES nibbling on everything. Originally he was supposed to have no middle name and only be Mortimer Trusty. After playing with him for a few days and seeing his little personality I really thought he needed something more. I can't exactly describe WHY I wanted Dracula but when I see him I can definitely see a lil vampire.

I am forever thankful that we found him from such good breeders. He has truly complete our family <3  Big bro isn't too sure about him because that's only because Morty keeps thinking Frank's tail is a cinnamon roll hahaha.

Get ready to see LOTS of baby puggo photos and videos alllll across my social media. Sorry not sorry!

^^^ he looks just like a lil vampire here!!

A Couple Easy Recipes

Hello everyone!! I somehow always tend to fall off the wagon but here I am again... if you're still around then please know that I GREATLY appreciate your loyalty. I've cooked a few good meals this week and I thought it'd be fun to share with you guys. I don't have a lot of detailed instruction photos but I promise to include every step you need to take.

Please share feedback if you try these or have had them.. I love hearing what other people think or did to make the recipe work for their family.

BBQ Chicken Tostadas
{served w/baked beans & pasta salad}

This meal SERIOUSLY wow'd me. I did not expect to really care for the tostada shell but it truly made this meal perfect. So here's how I made it..

- Boil chicken. This can be breasts, tenderloins.. any chicken preference you have is fine
- After chicken is boiled, shred chicken
-Add just enough bbq sauce to cover chicken & toss together
- Scoop a spoonful onto the tostada shell. At least enough to cover the shell with a small edge left.
- Drizzle mozzarella cheese & a little extra bbq sauce on top

Bake these @400 for about 10 mins. You really are just melting the cheese an heating the shell. I added some extra bbq sauce to mine after the oven and they were soooo delicious. This is a meal that I will for sure be archiving for later.

Chili w/ Fire
{served w/sour cream & saltines}

THISSSSS.... Gosh it was so delicious and flavorful. I will definitely be making this recipe again VERY SOON. I almost would say this could become a staple in the Trusty household. So here's how it made...

- Brown 1lb. hamburger meat in the skillet then drain
- Toss meat in a large pan along with:
- 2 cans of black beans
- 1 16oz can of tomato sauce
- I can of crushed tomatoes (I used fire roasted)
- 1 can of light red kidney beans
- I can of chili beans
(I drain all of my beans except the chili beans)
- 1 can of sweet corn
- Add water to make the soup juicy
- Texas Pete Hot Sauce (pour in about 3 teaspoons... I didn't really measure, oops)

I generally bring my chili to a boil and then cut it down to simmer. I served this spicy chili with sour cream and Saltine crackers. I did eventually do a bowl with shredded cheese so I'd recommend that also. It's such an easy, throw together after work, meal.

Fajita Baked Fish
{served w/ Mexican rice & fiesta salad}

I will definitely say.. this meal was completely out of my comfort zone. I am all for trying everything one but not normally if I am doing the cooking. I've been craving spicy foods lately... no, I am NOT pregnant, so I've been trying to find all things spicy on Pinterest. I came across this fiesta salad that looked SO GOOD & happened to have fish in my freezer so I kind of freestyled this recipe.

The fiesta salad is made up of rotel, black beans, corn and avocado. It's so easy and so filling. I also want to make mention that this recipe and the other two above are all super affordable!

But here is how I made my fish...

- 1 bag of your fish preference. I chose a simple cod fish fillet from Walmart
- Seasoned fish with Creole, Garlic Salt, Pepper & HONEY!!
- I steamed some peppers and onions and then added them to the pan about 1/2 way
- Cook until fish has a golden crispy top. I cooked mine for about 35 mins at 350 degrees

I don't think I want this all the time but it's a nice change from our normal routine. The rice I cooked was just a simple bag of "taco rice" made my Knorr. It isn't the healthiest option but it sure tasted good.

I hope to share more recipes like this in the future. I haven't enjoyed cooking for a little while but I'm starting to get back into the groove of things. I you like seeing recipes then comment below to let me know some of your favorite recipes!

Self Love

Friday, June 22, 2018

It's not often anymore that I sit down behind the screen of my computer. I've honestly been in such a blah phase that I just simply have no words. It's not that I don't have ideas.. cause I have tons.. but for some reason I can't seem to put anything together.

I took a step back and decided to take a small hiatus to work on me.

There are many ways that you can show yourself some love and I wanted to share a few important things to always remember.

*Stop comparing yourself | this is only harming your growth

*Be active | laying around all day doesn't help with the 'blah' feelings you might be having

*Pamper yourself | this could be a spa day or simply a fresh haircut

*Focus on positive speech | use uplifting phrases

*Celebrate what makes you different | there's only ONE you! Never forget to let yourself shine

I am always a work in progress... but I am getting there.

5 Ways To Have A Financially Healthy Marriage

Who doesn't want a healthy, strong marriage? When our marriage isn't healthy then it can lead to multiple problems. As we wind the path towards financial freedom, we have to keep our marriages in mind. Finances control a lot of emotions in a marriage. Some people are savers, others are spenders. If you and your spouse don't openly discuss your goals then your marriage will simply not make it.

Here are 5 tips on how to have a financially healthy marriage...

1. 100% Transparency. Keeping secrets in your marriage is NEVER okay but especially when it comes to money. Each spouse needs to be held accountable for their actions. Being transparent with your spouse will only bring you closer.

2. Make time to sit down and agree upon a budget that suits both of your needs. Communicating what you feel is necessary for bills, needs and wants can help you keep your finances on track. Being responsible or a budget can help build your relationship.

3. Set Goals & Crush Them! You can start with small goals or large goals... but create a few goals and work diligently to reach them. A little bit of a personal tidbit... My goal was to have debt paid off by the end of the year so we can officially own a home next year. Nick's goal was to have enough money to get a new motorcycle and possibly new car. Anything is achievable if you put your mind to it.

4. Don't Be Greedy. Sharing your life with someone can be a challenge. Sitting down with your spouse and talking about your wants and dislikes can help create a clear path to financial freedom. Just remember, you chose to share your life with this person for the REST of your life. You can't pick and chose the parts you want to share.

5. Be Patient. Anytime you're setting financial goals you should be fully aware of the time frame you are working with. Don't expect for things to happen overnight. In most cases, it takes some couples YEARS to achieve their financial bliss. Don't give up on your goals. Patience is a virtue... so I've been told ;)

Money is such a tough subject to talk about with someone. Nick and I have definitely had our fair share of fights about money. As we've gotten older our views have altered a little on certain things. It's always difficult to start sharing your personal feelings with someone but being an open book will only make you stronger.

I am thankful to now be on a clear path to financial confidence. I sat down with Nick a while back and explained to him the goals I had in mind. Nick also expressed the goals he had so together we are working to make sure we're staying on track.

Setting Goals & Crushing Them

So here lately Nick and I have been trying to get into better eating/working out habits. We are slowly getting into a good routine and I'm very pumped to see where we end up. Nick is very much a motivator for me. He continues to push me even when I think I can't do something. Although he has gotten me to push past my boundaries a little, sometimes I get really frustrated that I can't do as much as he thinks I can. Having my Husband push me to crush new goals and keep working towards a better me is seriously the best feeling. You get out what you put in.. that's what my Granny would say sometimes.

Tonight's post is a little different because we're starting this new journey and I kind of want to take you all along. It's always fun to reflect back on changes over a period of time. Countless times before we have started on this fitness journey and somehow managed to fall off the wagon. This time is going to be different and I am 100% determined to become the best me.

I'm focused on my health for many reasons.

- I want to look good.

- More importantly I want to feel good.

- I want my Husband to feel proud of his wife. I've started projects and quit them so many times before they were finished. This new health journey is very important to both of us. It's extremely important that I make MYSELF and Nick proud.

- Getting into better shape will help reduce some health issues I've struggled with.

I could honestly keep going but I won't bore you anymore. The whole point of this post is to share that with the support of your spouse/partner, you can literally accomplish anything. We can certainly be self-motivators but when you have the most important person in your life cheering you on that really makes all the difference. Stay tuned for more fitness posts that will be coming shortly.

Spicing Things Up

I am doing something a little different than I have EVER done before. I've never been the one to kiss and tell but hey.. we're all adults here, right??

Intimacy is a very important part of any marriage or relationship. Intimacy can come in many forms... not just in the bedroom. I thought it'd be nice to open up about this topic because it's such a hush, hush thing that most people feel uncomfortable talking about. However, I feel like being open about such a beautiful part of life should not feel so taboo to discuss openly.

First things first... intimacy comes in many ways and forms. As I said earlier, it doesn't always refer to things happening behind closed doors. Intimacy takes on many roles in your everyday life that you probably don't even recognize. For example, sending a spicy text during the day can really show your partner that you're thinking of them. I wanted to share a few of the ways that Nick and I express intimacy in our marriage so that maybe you can take these ideas and apply them or tweak them to fit your life.

Random Messages

I am the queen of random text messages. I think it's nice to send your spouse little reminders during the day that you care. Sometimes I like to spice things up a notch by maybe sending a little risky photo... oh geez I am blushing... or maybe a little risky text about your plans for later. Showing that you care enough to go out of your way to send a text during your day can show your spouse how much you value your time with them.

Setting The Mood

We allllll know what I mean by this but just in case you were wondering.... turning on your spouses favorite Pandora station or maybe lighting a few candles can really turn up the heat in your relationship. Husband's, this next part is for you.... Drawing a bath and adding some flowers or candles is probably what every girl dreams to come home to. Little touches really go a long way. I pay attention to detail more than anything. I certainly appreciate when Nick goes out of his way to do little things that I love.

Dressing The Part

I am going to share a few links below to different date night dresses I've been eyeing + a few lingerie pieces. Dressing up and having a nice date night can really make you feel special. Personally, I enjoy seeing my Hubby all snazzy. For those of us who enjoy going that extra mile behind closed doors... lingerie can be such a nice touch to make you feel sexy. I know that for me, after working all day.. cooking.. picking up around the house & just doing other mundane life tasks.. I don't always feel like putting that much effort into myself. Trust me when I say this though... take a shower, shave your legs & throw some nice lingerie on.

Every relationship and marriage is different and like they say...different strokes for different folks. I enjoy finding new ways to do things in my life though because doing the same thing over and over again can really become boring. When you've been married for several years it is NECESSARY to spice things up occasionally.

Here are a few things I've found recently on a couple different websites that I am currently living for. I've also added a few Plus Size pieces to this because everyone should feel beautiful in their skin!
