Words of Affirmation

This week's topic is probably one of my favorites. Personally, I've worked very hard over the years to make sure my attitude and words towards Nick are kind, gentle and purposeful. It's so easy to get caught up in the everyday stuff that we can sometimes let our tongues slip. If you aren't showing respect to your spouse then how can you expect anything positive back?

Let's start with you. No one likes to admit when they're doing something wrong..but maybe we all are? Here are a few questions you can ask yourself...

Is this attitude warranted? Or am I just being stubborn?

Have I taken time to let my spouse know how much I love them?

Have I recently shown gratitude for everything my spouse does?

Now that you've answered all those mentally... how you feeling? If you're anything like me.. then you may be feeling a little upset with yourself.

I've said it once but I will say it again.. it's so easy to get caught up in the everyday stuff that you often forget the nourishment that your love needs.

If your spouse doesn't feel respected by you then no amount of love will speak to them. When you've been married for several years you can sometimes forget the small things that drew you to your spouse. Take time to reflect on those things and then write them down. Sometimes seeing the words on paper puts things into a better perspective.

I don't want to say that I ever had a "broken" marriage but there were times I wasn't sure we'd make it. Nick and I basically grew up together and at times I wasn't sure who he was turning into. When your meet your spouse so young you talk about these dreams and hopes you have for your future but you don't realize that so many things can change and happen over the years. I never in a million years pictured my life the way it is today. You know what though... that is OKAY. I've ended up exactly where I am supposed to be.

I've learned that sometimes you have to treat your spouse like the person they COULD BE and they will feel more inclined to pursue that person. Using words of affirmation can set a great foundation for our spouse to grow on. I wanted to share a few different things you can say and do to show your love and support.

- Write them a love letter. In a world full of MCM/WCW, take time to really make things personal. Your love doesn't always have to be displayed on social media for it to seem "good".

- Truly listen when they are telling you something. Even if you've heard it before or even if it's another boring work story. To your spouse, these things may be important to them.

- Never complain about your spouse publicly. I'll be the first to admit that I am guilty of ranting about something that has happened. When you open up the floor to this kind of negativity though sometimes bad things come out of it.

- Compliment them on something they've done or simply how they look.

It really doesn't take that much effort to make sure your spouse feels loved, wanted and needed. I've been working on this part of my marriage for a couple years now. Sure, we slip up and may say something hurtful.. but when you notice how those words negatively affect the other person that only means you know what you're doing wrong. If you know what you're doing wrong then you have the opportunity to repair it.

Be Back Soon

Monday, March 26, 2018

This weekend something tragic happened... I dropped my phone and broke it. Sadly, the screen is cracked towards the top which is making it impossible to get into since I don't have the ability to enter the passcode. I've tried just about everything but have ended up with my phone in Japanese.

Although I could take it to get fixed sooner this week.. I decided to take the week off from social media. So I won't be getting my phone fixed until later this week. I will most definitely be absent on social media for the most part. However, I will still log in from my computer when I can.

I am not going to lie.. I am kind of excited to have a little vacation from social media. It's always great to have time to reflect and just focus on yourself.

So with all that being said, I am going to be working on some new content and cleaning my house. There will be a new post up later today, actually, so stay on the lookout :)

No7 Skincare Review

Friday, March 23, 2018

So lately I've been thinking about my skincare routine because I'm starting to get older and haven't really nailed down a routine yet. I've tried a lot of different products but haven't really loved one certain thing. A few weeks ago I bought a few No7 products from Walgreens and so far I'm in love. Even Nick has been using the under eye serum and really likes it.

It's so difficult for me to spend money on face products because they usually come in such a small bottle that I just can't justify the money. I've never really been drawn to high end makeup or skincare products just because they're so temporary. This No7 skincare line has really surprised me. Although it's classified as a "drugstore" line.. I am highly impressed with the quality.

I've been using a few products for a couple weeks now and can already tell a major difference in my overall skin. I tend to be very red and splotchy. I also have extremely dry skin. And if it couldn't get any worse.... DRY skin. I've tried multiple face masks and lotions.. nothing helps. This brand has really surprised me. Everything is linked below with a description of what products I currently use + some I am wanting to try.

I decided to buy the wrinkle filler to help with my large pores. I needed something to help cover them under makeup. This is the only product that I'm not sure I would rebuy.
No7 Wrinkle Filler (far right)

This is my FAVORITE new product. I have such red, splotchy skin and this serum has really helped even out my skin already. I use it right after I wash my face.
No7 Glow Activating Serum (third one from the left)

This is the product that Nick is even loving right now. It's very lightweight and helps give your eyes the appearance that you got a really good night's rest.
No7 Hydrating Eye Cream (bottom right)

With me having such dry skin I have always wanted to try a mineral or hydrating spray. I use this right after I put my makeup on and even spray it periodically throughout the day. I would definitely recommend this if you're wanting something to help refresh your skin throughout the day.

Hello, Spring

Wednesday, March 21, 2018

Spring is one of my favorite seasons. Mainly because it's a time for new beginnings. It's also the perfect time to wipe off the dust and do some spring cleaning. I have some tips I wanted to share with you guys for ways to declutter your home or work space.

Break out the dust rag and cleaner. It's time to rid your house of allergens before those seasonal allergies kick in. Take time to wipe down shelves and in behind tv's. I'm also considering purchasing an air purifier so I can help reduce my stuffy nose this allergy season.

This is the Air Purifier that I am currently looking at. It's Amazon Prime and really cheap compared to some other models I've seen.

Another good thing to do around the house is to purge closets and cabinets. Get rid of things that you don't love, use or need. This is also the best time to implement storage into your life.

Since I work in an office I wanted to include this in my spring cleaning because it's very easy to let those useless papers pile up. Especially if you're like me and have a file cabinet to stuff things in. Shred all those unneeded papers and dust your work space. I personally love wiping my desk down with Clorox wipes because we all know that germs are in full force!

Let Love Grow

Whether you're newly married, just started dating or have been married several years.. it is extremely important to let your love grow. If your love never flourishes then it will never make it. Just like plants. If you don't take all the necessary steps to ensure the growth of something new then it will die before you have time to rejuvenate it.

Being someone who has been married several years, I've went through several periods of time where I wondered if I could keep this thing alive and going. Marriage is hard work. It is even harder when you meet your spouse at such a young age. You're faced with obstacles that you may never have to deal with if you are someone who met your spouse later in life.

Nick and I have grown in love and deepened our roots in marriage more so now than ever before. I will say that the one great thing about meeting your spouse so young is the fun memories you make along the way. And the hard thing about being married so young is the fact that you're still developing into the human you will eventually become. Every good thing must go through the awkward growing phase.

In the beginning it's good to develop an understanding of who your significant other is as a person. Ask questions...lots of questions. The small details are what really makes a difference in any relationship. I can tell you the most random things about Nick because I've paid close attention to the little things he does.

Truly being able to understand your spouse or partner will only better your relationship.

My hope for everyone that is either struggling in their current relationship or thinking about starting something new... is that you let your love have the room and time to grow. Quitting is never an option. If you love this individual then take a risk. Finding someone that is true and genuine for you is very rare in this time of life. Cherish every little detail!

St. Patrick's Day + Fun Facts

Saturday, March 17, 2018

I am such a lover of holiday's and all the fun activities that come along with them. A friend at work once told me... "You just love every holiday, don't you?" Well... yeah, I kind of do. I like partaking in the festivities cause it's a lot of fun. St. Patrick's Day is a little extra special this year because we actually learned recently my Mom and Dad's DNA results.

On Dad's side... we are 100% British and Irish. On Mom's side... our percentages may not be 100% but we are 40% Irish, Scottish and Welsh. So as you can see, Irish runs deep in my roots.

This year I am thankful to spend the day off with my family celebrating at one of our local pubs. I plan to do a full review on this local business so stay tuned for that. Today though I wanted to share a few fun facts about this magical day.

- We should really be wearing blue. Saint Patrick himself would have to deal with pinching on his feast day! The color green only became associated with the big day after it was linked to the Irish independence movement in the late 18th century.

- Saint Patrick was BRITISH! Although he made his mark by introducing Christianity to Ireland in the year 432, Patrick wasn't Irish himself. He was born to Roman parents in Scotland or Wales in the late fourth century.

- It used to be a DRY holiday. Can you even imagine St. Patrick's Day without a good beer??! For most of the 20th century, Saint Patrick's Day was considered a strictly religious holiday in Ireland, which meant that the nation's pubs were closed for business! In 1970, the day was converted to a national holiday and beer resumed to flow!

- There's a reason for the Shamrocks. According to Irish legend, the Saint used the three-leafed plant as a metaphor for the Holy Trinity when he was first introducing Christianity to Ireland.

I love sharing facts as well as learning new ones. Knowledge is power.

What are you plans this Saint Patrick's Day? Share photos or comments :)

Marriage Is More

I am so excited to finally share that my friend Kendra, who runs Sunshine In Her Soul, and myself will be collaborating on a marriage series! This topic speaks very dearly to my soul because I got married at a very young age in life. While it hasn't always been sunshine and rainbows, we've somehow made it work.

My hope for this series is that someone out there can take a small piece of my advice and apply it to their very own marriage to help grow their roots in love. While I've been married for 6 years, Kendra is just about to hit her 1 year mark. So I hope that you all join our journey as we begin exposing things that we've picked up along this wonderful journey in life!

So first things first.. what's the story behind the title?

Kendra and I met because our husbands worked together at Walgreens. Nick, my husband, started in the pharmacy as a Pharmacy Tech and Kendra's husband, David, was an Assistant Manager. Nick and David hit it off and before long we started planning double dates. I will be honest, when I first met Kendra I knew immediately that we'd be friends. It's so hard, as a girl in your 20s, to meet new girls. It's really rare that I hit it off with someone so well and already feel like I can trust. I was so excited when this idea came up because we both bring such a different view to the table when it comes to marriage.

Today I wanted to briefly touch on the above title... Marriage Is More. Some people think that you find someone you vibe with, get married and settle down. Marriage is so much more than just "settling down". Truly making a life with someone can be messy. You have to learn that you can't always be right. You have to learn to be respectful of the other person's time. You suddenly become responsible for making sure this other person feels loved, wanted and needed. Along this series I hope to open up about some of the troubled times I've had as a young wife and how Nick and I worked together to secure our marriage. I am a very blessed wife to say the least. Everything I am is because I've had the support of my family and most importantly my spouse.

Make sure to follow us on Instagram and Twitter to keep up with updates and inspirational messages along the way.

Trying Something New.. A Small Review

Monday, March 12, 2018

As I get older I find that my skin is seriously starting to tank! I've always been one to wash my face day and night to keep for breaking out. Luckily, I've never had bad acne or anything major. I have, however, had to deal with SUPER dry skin and LARGE pores. I am still looking for those perfect "everyday" products to use so I thought I would share what I try along the way.

The first thing I want to share is this Sloap and Glory face mask. It is their Fab Pore Skin-Smoothing and Pore-Refining mask. Wow...what a name.

It's just like most other sheet masks. Make sure you face is clean and dry before application. You just simply unfold the mask and place it appropriately. I will say that this mask was VERY "juicy" if that makes sense. I had a lot of excess product still in the pouch. With this mask you are supposed to wear it 15-20 mins while you relax. Matter of fact.. I am writing this post behind this mask.

So far, this mask feels right. It has just enough tingle to make me feel confident that it's definitely working. Of course I am still in the process so I will know more AFTER I take it off and wash my face.

I purchased another mask by Soap and Glory so I wanted to link both of them for ya'll. PLUS there are a few other products that I'm currently thinking about trying.

So keep scrolling to see the other products I am considering buying. If you've tried any of them please leave me your comments! Sharing is caring.

As for the Pore-Refining mask... I really love it. It did just as I was hoping it would. My skin feels so soft and glowy and I can't wait to show it off at work tomorrow.

A Different Kind Of Date Night

Friday, March 9, 2018

There is absolutely nothing more important in your marriage or relationship than to DATE your spouse or significant other. That's right... I said DATE. As you grow the foundations to your life together you start to settle in and get comfy. We all knows what happens after you settle....

Instead of letting the monotonous routine of life hit you.. make sure to switch things up occasionally. Plan special date nights out with your love. You don't have to go all out and spend a bunch of money to have a good time.

Some of my favorite memories with Nick have been made right at home.

Since I am definitely a homebody I thought I'd share a few ways that you can romanticize your special partner without even having to leave the house.

First and foremost.. I am a firm believer and Netflix and Chill. There is a right way and wrong way to do this activity...if you get my drift. I get so excited each month when they release new movies to Netflix. We also subscribe to Hulu and Amazon Video so between all of our choices we never have an issue finding something to watch. I wanted to share a few of our favorite picks that we've recently watched.

Leap! was such a terrific movie. I laughed more than I should have for it to be considered a "Children's" movie. The whole plot is truly inspiring and it really makes you think about the way we show value towards other human beings. I would definitely recommend this is you're a huge kid at heart or have small children.

The Emoji Movie. I know this is another children's movie but I can't help it. I laughed so hard that I cried a couple of times. This movie is truly the perfect movie if you're looking to laugh and cry. I think the reason I love this so movie is due to the awesome story that is told. Meh is the main character who goes on an adventure to be reprogrammed so he can finally only feel the "correct" emotion.... Meh. I love this movie so much because it's a true testament of how most kids feel these days. I highly recommend this for all you parents that have little young adults at home.

If you recognize this cover than you're truly showing your age. Little Shop of Horrors came out in 1986. If you grew up watching it then you will understand and appreciate the cooky, dramatic story line. Not only is the film a little cooky, it's also a musical! I truly believe that this is what they mean when they say the 80s were "trippin". This movie is on Amazon Prime Video.

Chips is the typical "goofy cop" movie. When a rookie gets paired up with an undercover cop things get a little crazy. Dax Shepard and Michael Pena clash heads while trying to come together to take down the bad guys. While they're doing their undercover work posing as California Highway Patrol they soon find out that they're working with dirty cops! This movie is included with the Cinemax subscription on Amazon Video.

I wanted to share just one more from Amazon Video. While this one is not free, it is very well worth the money. As we can tell.. I love animated movies. I think they're so pure and sometimes just the appropriate amount of humor that I need in my life. Coco is truly inspiring for so many reasons. Despite his family being very much against music, Miguel stills fights his way to become a great musician. Just like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz. His journey is so heartbreaking as he gets to experience what life was like way before he came along.

If you've not seen This Is Us yet... you're really missing some quality tv. This show is sure to make you cry at least once but the wholesome feeling it gives you is overwhelming. We get to see the past and present come together and tell the story of two people who fell in love. Jack Pearson will forever be my hero. He overcame a major battle to show his wife and family that he was capable of being not only an amazing husband but even better Dad. I'm obsessed with this show and look forward to my little cry fest every week.

I may have watched this twice already but One Tree Hill will never get old. There are really no words to fully break this tv show down. So many things happen to each character as they grow into responsible, creative adults. This tv show is iconic and you have to watch it at least once. Since Netflix deleted the tv show from their watch list.. I was lucky enough to have a Hulu membership so I could continue watching.

50 First Dates is the perfect "cuddle up with your honey" movie. You can find it on Hulu under the popular movies if you have a membership. Adam Sandler starts every day over with Drew Barrymore  in hopes to make her fall in love with him all over again. I think it's the sweetest story because even though she has no idea who he is every day when she wakes up, he continues to fight for her love and gain her trust.

O . M. G!! Kidnap is the PERFECT thriller. I literally sat on the edge of my seat the entire movie. Kidnap was very relatable to Halle's movie The Call. She fights tirelessly to get her son back who was kidnapped at the local fair. She races down highways and back roads trying to get her son out of the back seat of this couple's car. Go watch Kidnap on Hulu to see what happens!

I know this post is pretty lengthy but I love hearing people's opinions and recommendations. I love watching movies more than anything because it's like reading a book. You can literally transport to another life while reading or watching a show. I'd love to hear some of the things that ya'll are watching across these streaming services. Please drop me a comment with some recommendations.

Empowered Women Empower Women

Thursday, March 8, 2018

I've never prided myself on being a "feminist" in life BUT here lately I've grown a lot and realized so many things. There are so many beautiful, strong women out in the world and they so often don't get the recognition they need.

Women have to go through so much in life. As a woman there are many obstacles we have to face as we journey through this wonderful world.

We're constantly being stepped on and ignored because how could a woman truly have a good idea? Women often get passed on job opportunities because a woman's real job is at home tending to the kids. Women have to deal with derogatory comments because we're simply "women" with assets.

Women should not have to worry about their role in life. Women should not have to constantly look over their shoulder or be worried about someone attacking them because they are considered "weak" and vulnerable. Women should not be made to feel less than a man.

You are strong.

You are beautiful.

You are powerful.

You are smart.

You are simply you.

When women come together amazing things can happen. Instead of knocking someone's crown off, help straighten it when things get tough. I wish more women could understand that you're not in a competition with each other.

Empowered women empower women.

I'm still blooming into the women I want to be and that's okay. There is no expectation when you're supposed to "have it all together" because honestly, who ever really does?

Take at least 5 minutes today to share some kind words with another strong, independent woman!

Small Break Between The Clouds

Saturday, March 3, 2018

I have been wanting to share something very personal and close to my heart but I just haven't had the courage to go through with posting it. I wrote out a long blog post this past week but couldn't hit publish. However, because this disease affects so many people nationwide I have decided to open up with you guys and be 100% raw about a small part of my life.

There is so many things inside that one, singular word.

From my early teens up until my adult life I have suffered depression periodically in life. It kind of came out of nowhere and at first I thought it was just hormones cause you know... early teen years. However, after a couple years I grew to realize that this was just part of me now. Depression always comes in waves for me and doesn't normally last very long. To be honest, I'm not even sure what triggers it sometimes.

Depression is like feeling nothing but everything all at once.

If there's something I've learned over the years is that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. It's just a bad day, not a bad life. I try to keep really positive vibes when going through the motions of depression. If you allow the disease to control you it can ruin your whole life.

Next time you see someone being a little stand offish or quiet.. don't assume they're stuck up. Sometimes being in a crowded room is when I feel the most alone.

Maybe eventually I will be able to really open up about my story and share some personal stories but at this time.. I just wanted you to know that you are not alone. Also, if you EVER need to talk to someone or just cry.. please send me a message! I never want someone to feel like it's just them amongst a sea of faces.
