5 Ways To Have A Financially Healthy Marriage

Who doesn't want a healthy, strong marriage? When our marriage isn't healthy then it can lead to multiple problems. As we wind the path towards financial freedom, we have to keep our marriages in mind. Finances control a lot of emotions in a marriage. Some people are savers, others are spenders. If you and your spouse don't openly discuss your goals then your marriage will simply not make it. 

Here are 5 tips on how to have a financially healthy marriage...

1. 100% Transparency. Keeping secrets in your marriage is NEVER okay but especially when it comes to money. Each spouse needs to be held accountable for their actions. Being transparent with your spouse will only bring you closer. 

2. Make time to sit down and agree upon a budget that suits both of your needs. Communicating what you feel is necessary for bills, needs and wants can help you keep your finances on track. Being responsible or a budget can help build your relationship. 

3. Set Goals & Crush Them! You can start with small goals or large goals... but create a few goals and work diligently to reach them. A little bit of a personal tidbit... My goal was to have debt paid off by the end of the year so we can officially own a home next year. Nick's goal was to have enough money to get a new motorcycle and possibly new car. Anything is achievable if you put your mind to it. 

4. Don't Be Greedy. Sharing your life with someone can be a challenge. Sitting down with your spouse and talking about your wants and dislikes can help create a clear path to financial freedom. Just remember, you chose to share your life with this person for the REST of your life. You can't pick and chose the parts you want to share. 

5. Be Patient. Anytime you're setting financial goals you should be fully aware of the time frame you are working with. Don't expect for things to happen overnight. In most cases, it takes some couples YEARS to achieve their financial bliss. Don't give up on your goals. Patience is a virtue... so I've been told ;)

Money is such a tough subject to talk about with someone. Nick and I have definitely had our fair share of fights about money. As we've gotten older our views have altered a little on certain things. It's always difficult to start sharing your personal feelings with someone but being an open book will only make you stronger. 

I am thankful to now be on a clear path to financial confidence. I sat down with Nick a while back and explained to him the goals I had in mind. Nick also expressed the goals he had so together we are working to make sure we're staying on track.

Setting Goals & Crushing Them

So here lately Nick and I have been trying to get into better eating/working out habits. We are slowly getting into a good routine and I'm very pumped to see where we end up. Nick is very much a motivator for me. He continues to push me even when I think I can't do something. Although he has gotten me to push past my boundaries a little, sometimes I get really frustrated that I can't do as much as he thinks I can. Having my Husband push me to crush new goals and keep working towards a better me is seriously the best feeling. You get out what you put in.. that's what my Granny would say sometimes. 

Tonight's post is a little different because we're starting this new journey and I kind of want to take you all along. It's always fun to reflect back on changes over a period of time. Countless times before we have started on this fitness journey and somehow managed to fall off the wagon. This time is going to be different and I am 100% determined to become the best me. 

I'm focused on my health for many reasons. 

- I want to look good. 

- More importantly I want to feel good. 

- I want my Husband to feel proud of his wife. I've started projects and quit them so many times before they were finished. This new health journey is very important to both of us. It's extremely important that I make MYSELF and Nick proud. 

- Getting into better shape will help reduce some health issues I've struggled with. 

I could honestly keep going but I won't bore you anymore. The whole point of this post is to share that with the support of your spouse/partner, you can literally accomplish anything. We can certainly be self-motivators but when you have the most important person in your life cheering you on that really makes all the difference.
